ARKADELPHIA,
Ark. – The University of West Alabama dropped a
triple overtime, 45-43, decision to Ouachita Baptist in
Gulf South Conference football action on Saturday.
OBU’s third
overtime touchdown coupled by the two-point conversion
proved to be the winning points in the high scoring
contest. OBU’s Julius Pratt scored the game-tying
points prior to Jeremy Young adding the game-winning
points on the pass from quarterback Lance Parker.
UWA (4-6, 25 GSC)
sent the game into the extra period on Jeremy May's
safety with 3:59 remaining in the final quarter. The
Tigers held a slim 28-27 lead at the 11:38 mark after
sophomore Terry Allen scored on an 85-yard scamper. OBU
(6-3, 4-3 GSC) added a Zach Wright 20-yard field goal to
re-gain the lead. Allen led all Tigers in rushing with
164 yards rushing. Dameon Baylor posted a career-best
four touchdowns in the setback along with registering
160 yards on the ground. The Meridian, Miss.-native
scored all of UWA’s offensive points except for Allen’s
fourth quarter score and Cole Mason’s touchdown in the
overtime session.
The pair of Tigers
of the GSC combined for 957 yards in total offense. The
Red and White owned the contest in rushing with 361
yards on 60 attempts while the Purple and Gold had 348
through the air. UWA entered the contest as the
top-ranked defense in the conference. The Tiger defense
was led by Deantuan Matthews, who tallied 16 total
tackles, 13 solo stops and three for a loss. Matthews
also registered two sacks and forced a fumble. Garry
Pack was credited with 14 stops, one for a loss.
UWA will close out the 2008 campaign on Saturday, Nov.
8, hosting in-state rival North Alabama at Tiger
Stadium. Kick off is set for 6 p.m. |
