May Becomes Third Tiger to Receive GSC Defensive Player of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The University of West Alabama’s Jeremy May was named Gulf South Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts in the 27-14 setback at the University of Arkansas at Monticello.

May becomes the third different Tiger defender to claim honors this season, gathering 16 total tackles, including 11 solo stops.  The junior was also active in the UAM backfield, posting 3.5 tackles for a loss of 16 yards, including two sacks for 15 yards.  The Birmingham, Ala.-native also forced one fumble, recovered one fumble and blocked a Boll Weevils’ extra-point attempt.

May leads UWA with 6.5 sacks, is second in tackles for loss with 12.5 and third on the team in tackles with 49 this season.

May joins teammates Octavious Sumbry and Garry Pack as recipients of the award. The three Defensive Player of the Week honors for UWA is the most by any school in each individual weekly honor represented by the conference.

West Alabama returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 25, as the Tigers host West Georgia for Homecoming 2008. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
