BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –
The University of West Alabama’s Jeremy May was
named Gulf South Conference Defensive Player of
the Week for his efforts in the 27-14 setback at
the University of Arkansas at Monticello.
May becomes the third
different Tiger defender to claim honors this
season, gathering 16 total tackles, including 11
solo stops. The junior was also active in the
UAM backfield, posting 3.5 tackles for a loss of
16 yards, including two sacks for 15 yards. The
Birmingham, Ala.-native also forced one fumble,
recovered one fumble and blocked a Boll Weevils’
extra-point attempt.
May leads
UWA with 6.5 sacks, is second in tackles for
loss with 12.5 and third on the team in tackles
with 49 this season.
May joins teammates
Octavious Sumbry and Garry Pack as recipients of
the award.
The three
Defensive Player of the Week honors for UWA is
the most by any school in each individual weekly
honor represented by the conference.
West Alabama returns to
action on Saturday, Oct. 25, as the Tigers host
West Georgia for Homecoming 2008. Kickoff is
scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
