MONTICELLO, Ark. –
Mitch Warfield, Jerin Wright and Chris Coach, members of
the University of West Alabama football team, were named
to the Don Hansen Football Gazette NCAA Division II
All-Southeast Region Team.
Warfield was named to
the Second Team Offense as a placekicker. The Bay
Minette, Ala. native, who was named to the GSC Fall
Academic Honor Roll and the Fall Academic All-GSC Team,
received his third postseason award as he was also named
All-Gulf South Conference and to the American Football
Coaches Association All-American Team.
Wright and Coach also
received All-Southeast Region Team recognition, as both
were named to the Third Team Offense.
Wright, a senior,
finished his as the second, all-time rusher at UWA with
2,030 career yards. This marks Wright’s second
postseason award, as the Baton Rouge, La. native, was
named All-GSC First Team.
Senior wide receiver,
Coach, finished his career with 1,714 receiving yards
and 15 career touchdowns, including one rushing
touchdown. The Birmingham, Ala. native, earned his
second postseason award along with being named All-GSC
First Team.
“We are proud that
there are three players from UWA receiving this honor,”
UWA head coach Bobby Wallace said. “All three are
deserving, hard working, good people. I think this shows
that when a team wins, individuals receive deserved
accolades.”
West Alabama, which
started the season 3-0 for the first time since 1992,
finished the 2006 campaign with a 6-5 record, marking
the first winning season in 14 years.
