LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The
University of West Alabama football team returns to Gulf
South Conference play on Saturday, Oct. 11, as the
Tigers (3-3, 1-2 GSC) travel to #7 Delta State for a
3:00 p.m. kickoff. The game will be broadcasted on WXAL
1400 AM. DSU (4-1, 3-0 GSC) will also stream the game
over the web on PennAtlantic.
West Alabama travels
to Cleveland, Miss. for the 53rd meeting in the series
against the Delta State. DSU holds the advantage in the
series with a 31-18-3 record. The Statesmen have won
nine of the last 10 meetings, including five straight.
UWA’s trek to the
Mississippi Delta is the second straight road contest
for the Tigers. The Red and White picked up its first
road victory since Oct. 28, 2006 with a 24-7 victory
over Concordia in Selma, AL. The Tigers look to continue
their way in the win column and snap a six-game,
conference, road losing streak in Cleveland.
Delta State returns
to McCool Stadium after knocking off previous #1
Valdosta State 27-24 in double overtime. The Statesmen
have won three straight since their season opening loss
at FCS McNeese State. DSU has claimed nine straight
victories at McCool Stadium, dating back to a 17-10 loss
to North Alabama in 2006.
The series with the
Statesmen is the second longest in UWA history behind 59
meetings with North Alabama.
The series began in 1940, in
Cleveland, with a scoreless tie, the first of three in
the series. Delta State has claimed nine of the last 10
meetings, including five straight. The Tigers claimed
five straight “W’s” during the series from 1979-83,
their longest win streak in the series. DSU’s longest
win streak in the series is eight (1994-2001).
West Alabama concludes its
three-game, road trip next weekend, when the Tigers
travel to the University of Arkansas at Monticello.
