LIVINGSTON, Ala. –
A late touchdown propelled the University
of West Alabama Tigers over Concordia College, 28-21 on
Saturday night at Tiger Stadium to open the 2007 home
schedule for UWA.
Junior Cole Mason punched in the
game-winning points with just 29 ticks remaining in the
game to seal the win. The game-winning drive that
started at the Tiger's nine yard line was sparked by
Terry Allen's reverse pitch that moved the Red and White
into CC territory. Two plays later, senior quarterback
James Reiter connected with Josh Jones for a 43-yard reception to put
UWA in scoring position.
Freshman Dusty Gracie registered 103
yards on 20 carries, including the game's opening
touchdown with four minutes left in the opening quarter.
Gracie, a native of Demopolis scampered 31 yards
to put the Tigers on the board. The Hornets of CC
answered with 14 points in the second stanza to take a
14-7 advantage into the locker room. Quarterback Ken
Johnson finished off a six play, 17-yard scoring drive
at the 10:58 mark of the quarter. Johnson completed a
32-yard pass to Felton McWhorter to give CC the lead
going into the break.
UWA pulled even with 4:54 left in the
third quarter after Reiter threw his second touchdown
pass of the season with a toss to Allen for a five-yard
score. Reiter finished 10-of-17 for 144 yards. The Green
and Gold re-took the lead with 1:30 left in the third on
Anthony Ward's 12-yard run.
The Tigers finished with 362 yards total
offense, with 218 coming on the ground. CC closed out
with 287 yards on the evening.
UWA opens Gulf South Conference play
next week, traveling to the state of Arkansas to take on
Southern Arkansas. Kick off is set for 6 p.m. The Tigers
claimed the 2006 game in Livingston 24-17.
