LIVINGSTON, Ala. –
The University of West Alabama football team is geared
up for its 2007 home opener, as the Tigers (0-1) welcome
the Concordia College-Selma Hornets to Tiger Stadium on
Saturday evening. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
UWA, which is coming
off a season opening setback at Samford nine days ago,
looks to rebound against the Hornets (1-1) in the home
debut. This marks the third meeting between the Tigers
and Concordia, all of which have come at Tiger Stadium,
with UWA holding the 2-0 advantage.
“You don’t ever like
to lose,” UWA head coach Bobby Wallace said. “But I am
proud of the way our team played last week at Samford.
We started slow, but got better as the game went on. The
guys never gave up. We look to come out this weekend, in
front of our home crowd, and get back on the winning
side of things. Concordia is an improved team from last
season and it will be a tough match-up for us. We need
to improve our game and get ready for the conference
season ahead of us.”
The Tigers faced
Concordia in the first game under Wallace last season,
as UWA marched to a 65-0 win in front of 6,200. In 2005,
Concordia opened its football history at Tiger Stadium
and fell to the Tigers 34-12.
UWA becomes the third
consecutive road opponent for the Hornets, who enter
Saturday evening’s contest after picking up their first
victory of the season at Belhaven, 32-19. CC opened the
season by suffering a 30-14 setback at Stillman College.
“Concordia is a much
improved team that is well coached,” Wallace stated. “We
will need to play well to get a victory on Saturday.”
Kickoff between West
Alabama and Concordia is slated for 7:00 p.m. The game
can be heard on Y-104.9 FM and also at athletics.uwa.edu.
