Tigers Travel to Concordia College for Non-Conference Action

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama football team looks to return to the win column, as the Tigers (2-3, 1-2 GSC) begin a three-game, road trip in Selma, Ala. against Concordia College. Kickoff at Memorial Stadium is 2:00 p.m.  The game will be broadcasted on WZNJ 106.5-FM.

Saturday’s contest is the fourth in the series with Concordia (4-2), as UWA has taken the three previous meetings, all in Livingston.

The Red and White enter the contest after falling to #1 Valdosta State 33-14 at Tiger Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 27. The Tigers tallied 231 total yards in the setback. Freshman quarterback Derek Thomas completed 50-percent of his passes for a career-high 161 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions.

Concordia also looks to return to the win column, after falling to Texas Southern 45-27 in Houston, Texas. The Hornets posted 214 yards of total offense in the loss. CC has dropped two of its last three contests, after opening the season at 3-0.

UWA and Concordia first met in 2005 with the Tigers claiming a 34-12 victory in Livingston, Ala.  The Tigers opened the Bobby Wallace Era the following season with a 65-0 victory over the Hornets. Last season’s contest proved a closer match, as the Tigers rallied from a 21-14 deficit to score two touchdowns in the fourth quarter and secure the win. UWA has outscored the Hornets 127-33 in the series.

West Alabama’s road trip continues with a visit to Cleveland, Miss. to face Delta State on Saturday, Oct. 11 at McCool Stadium and concludes with an expedition to Monticello, Ark. against the Arkansas at Monticello Boll Weevils on Saturday, Oct. 18.
