LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The
University of West Alabama football team looks to
return to the win column, as the Tigers (2-3, 1-2
GSC) begin a three-game, road trip in Selma, Ala.
against Concordia College. Kickoff at Memorial
Stadium is 2:00 p.m. The game will be broadcasted
on WZNJ 106.5-FM.
Saturday’s
contest is the fourth in the series with Concordia
(4-2), as UWA has taken the three previous meetings,
all in Livingston.
The Red and
White enter the contest after falling to #1 Valdosta
State 33-14 at Tiger Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 27.
The Tigers tallied 231 total yards in the setback.
Freshman quarterback Derek Thomas completed
50-percent of his passes for a career-high 161 yards
with a touchdown and two interceptions.
Concordia also
looks to return to the win column, after falling to
Texas Southern 45-27 in Houston, Texas. The Hornets
posted 214 yards of total offense in the loss. CC
has dropped two of its last three contests, after
opening the season at 3-0.
UWA and
Concordia
first met in 2005 with the Tigers claiming a 34-12
victory in Livingston, Ala. The Tigers opened the
Bobby Wallace Era the following season with a 65-0
victory over the Hornets. Last season’s contest
proved a closer match, as the Tigers rallied from a
21-14 deficit to score two touchdowns in the fourth
quarter and secure the win. UWA has outscored the
Hornets 127-33 in the series.
West Alabama’s
road trip continues with a visit to Cleveland, Miss.
to face Delta State on Saturday, Oct. 11 at McCool
Stadium and concludes with an expedition to
Monticello, Ark. against the Arkansas at Monticello
Boll Weevils on Saturday, Oct. 18.
