LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The
University of West Alabama football team prepares for
its 2008 season opener on Saturday, Aug. 30, as the
Tigers host Belhaven College at 7:00 p.m. in Tiger
Stadium.
The Saturday contest begins the 77th
season of Tiger Football and will mark the fourth
meeting between Belhaven and the Red and White. All four
meetings between UWA and BC have come in season openers.
The game will be the first meeting since 2002, a UWA
41-14 win, between the two schools.
UWA looks to return to
the win column in season openers after having a
two-game, lid-lifter win streak snapped last season at
Samford. The Tigers will look to earn their 27th
season opening win in school history.
Belhaven holds the all-time advantage in the series,
2-1. The two first met in 1999 with the Blazers claiming
a 16-6 victory. The series was renewed again in 2001
with Belhaven claiming a 21-0 victory over the Tigers.
UWA closed the gap in the series with a 41-14 win over
the Blazers in 2002.
West Alabama’s lid-lifter will be
streamed over the internet on the B2 Network and can be
accessed at athletics.uwa.edu. The game will also be
carried on WXAL 1400-AM. |
