LIVINGSTON, Ala. --
The University of West Alabama football program set new
attendance records during the 2006 season, as released
by the National Collegiate Athletic Association earlier
this month.
UWA football averaged
5,783 fans at home games in 2006 and ranked 22nd
out of 143 Division II schools. The Tigers finished the
season ranked third in the Gulf South Conference
and the GSC ranked fourth in the country.
“President Richard
Holland, Coach Bobby Wallace and his staff, the 2006
Tiger football players and all of our great Tiger fans
are the reasons why our home football attendance was
record-setting in 2006," said UWA Director of Athletics
E. J. Brophy. “Dr. Holland’s phenomenal leadership
coupled with Coach Wallace and his staff doing such a
splendid job injected passion into our players and fans
and got UWA Football back on track. Now it’s time to
really start getting after it in 2007 and beyond”.
The Tigers, who
enjoyed their first winning season in 14 years, recorded
an estimated best home crowd in school history in UWA’s
season finale against North Alabama, along with the best
estimated home attendance in one season in the
university’s 75 year football history.
West Alabama will open
the 2007 season on the road at
NCAA Division I Football
Championship Subdivision and in-state foe Samford
on Thursday, August 30th with a 7:00 p.m.
kickoff. The Tigers home opener will be Saturday,
September 8th, as UWA will host Concordia
College at 7:00 p.m. |
