MONTICELLO, Ark. – A pair of
Arkansas at Monticello fourth quarter touchdowns
was the difference in the University of West
Alabama’s 27-14 setback on Saturday in Gulf
south Conference football action.
UAM (6-2,
4-1 GSC) quarterback Scott Buisson threw his
second touchdown pass to Clarence Denmark to
start the final quarter, breaking the 14-14
deadlock. The UAM tandem connected on the Boll
Weevils second touchdown of the game in the
second quarter to give them a 14-0 lead over the
Tigers. UAM sealed the contest with a 13 play,
87 yard scoring drive to extend the lead to
27-14.
UWA’s (3-5,
1-4 GSC) first half points came after the Red
and White orchestrated a 16 play, 84 yard drive
that was capped off by Dameon Baylor’s
three-yard plunge into the endzone. The Tigers
evened the score at 14 after Terry Levy hauled
in a 36-yard pass from Derrick Thomas at the
9:55 mark of the third period.
In a match
up pitting the GSC’s top offense against
league’s second-ranked defense, UAM finished the
contest with 421 yards of total offense while
UWA mustered up 173 total yards. Levy led all
Tigers in receiving with 70 yards on six
catches.
UWA returns
to Tiger Stadium next Saturday against West
Georgia for Homecoming, 2008. Kick off between
the Tigers and Wolves is set for 5 p.m. on the
Livingston campus.
