BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –
University of West Alabama wide receiver Terry Allen was
named Gulf South Conference Special Teams Player of the
Week for his efforts in the Tigers game against Harding,
as announced by the conference office Monday afternoon.
Allen engraved his
name in the West Alabama record book and also in the
conference record book in UWA’s narrow 36-35 setback to
the Bison at Tiger Stadium. The freshman returned five
kickoffs for 216 yards, including a school record tying
100-yard return for a touchdown. The record tied a
34-year old school record that was set by Larry
Lightfoot against Delta State.
The Huntsville,
Ala.-native’s 216 yards also set the GSC record for
kickoff return yards in a game, while also tying the
school mark for the longest kickoff return for a score.
Current Seattle Seahawk defensive back Jordan Babineaux
set the previous league mark in 2003 with 208 yards.
West Alabama returns
to action on Saturday, October 13th, when the
Tigers travel to West Georgia for GSC action. Kickoff in
Carrollton, Ga. is set for 6:00 p.m. at Grisham Stadium.
The game will be carried on Y-104.9 FM and also at
athletics.uwa.edu.
