Tigers place nine on All-GSC Team

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – A school record, nine West Alabama football players received All-Gulf South Conference honors, as released by the conference office on Thursday.

The school record broke the previous record of eight during the 2002 season, as four Tigers were selected to the First Team and five to the Second Team.

UWA, which saw its first winning season in 14 years, was represented on the All-GSC Team by the Tigers second leading rusher of all-time, a three time All-GSC selection, the second leading receiver in the GSC, the second leading kicker in the conference and five members of the Tiger defense.

Jerin Wright, Chris Coach, Kidane McBride and Mitch Warfield were the four UWA players selected to the GSC First Team, which is the most since 1985.

The Tiger defense made its presence felt on the field and also on the Second Team, as defensive linemen Tim Kelley, Johnny Jackson and Jason Riles along with linebacker Lewis Thompson received GSC honors.

Paul Girton received his third, All-GSC honor, as he was named to the Second Team, Special Team.

"I'm real proud of the players who were named All-Conference," UWA head coach Bobby Wallace said. "These guys were major contributors to our success."
