BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The
University of West Alabama football team placed four
student-athletes on the 2007 All-Gulf South Conference
Second Team with two on the defensive side and one
apiece on the offensive and special team side, as
announced by the conference office on Thursday morning.
Tariq Ali and Jacobi Avery
represent the UWA defense on the All-GSC list. Both are
first honorees. The Birmingham, Ala.-native, Ali, led
the Tigers in tackles with 83 and tied for the team lead
in interceptions with two. The junior linebacker’s 83
tackles currently ranks in a tie for fifth in the
conference.
Avery, a Grenada, Miss.-native,
finished the season as team leader in tackles for loss
with 11.5 for 49 yards and was second on the team in
sacks with two. The senior defensive end recorded 59
tackles, which is fourth on the team.
Cole Mason received his first All-GSC
honor after leading the Tigers in rushing and scoring
for the season. The Parrish, Ala.-native pounded his way
to 858 yards on the ground, which currently ranks third
in the conference. His nine touchdowns leads the way for
UWA and is tied for seventh in the GSC.
Terry Allen rounds out the
all-conference selections for the Red and White. The
Huntsville, Ala.-native played multiple positions for
the Tigers. The freshman was honored by the conference
as a kickoff return specialist, tallying a school and
conference record 1,061 kickoff return yards, including
returning two for touchdowns. His school and conference
record tying 100-yard return against Harding earlier
this season catapulted him to setting the school and
conference record in return yards for a game with 216
yards. |
