BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Gulf
South Conference announced the 2008 GSC Football
Pre-Season Coaches’ Poll Tuesday afternoon with the
University of West Alabama receiving 36 points, landing
the Tigers in seventh place.
The head Coaches voted in this
poll. Teams received 10 points for a first place vote,
nine for a second place vote, etc. The Head Coaches were
not allowed to vote for their own squads.
Valdosta State grabbed the top spot
in the poll, topping North Alabama by one point, with 95
points. Delta State stands in third with 84 points
followed by Henderson State in fourth and Harding in
fifth. Arkansas Tech sits in sixth with 58 points. West
Georgia, Southern Arkansas, Ouachita Baptist and the
University of Arkansas at Monticello round out the
bottom four spots.
Tariq Ali represented UWA as the
lone Tiger on the Pre-Season All-GSC Team. Ali, a
Birmingham, Ala.-native, was named to the 2007 All-GSC
Second Team. The Red and White placed Terry Levy (Wide
Receiver;
Kosciusko, Miss.),
Deon Williams (Quarterback; Birmingham, Ala.), Curtis
Dawson (Defensive Line; Hoover, Ala.) and Garry Pack
(Linebacker; Hattiesburg, Miss.) on the 2008
Top Newcomers list.
In conjunction with the Tigers
reporting to campus on Wednesday, West Alabama will hold
its Annual Media Day on the Livingston campus. UWA opens
the season, hosting Belhaven College on Saturday, August
30th. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. at Tiger
Stadium. |
