BIRMINGHAM, Ala.
– The University of West Alabama’s
Terry Allen was named Gulf South
Conference Special Teams Player of the
Week for his efforts in the Tigers’
35-30 win over Arkansas Tech in the Gulf
South Conference Game of the Week.
Allen, a
Huntsville, Ala.-native, recorded 135
kickoff return yards in the conference
opening victory, including an 89-yard
return for a touchdown that put the Red
and White on the board against ATU. The
return is the longest in the GSC this
season and is tied for 10th
longest in UWA history. The accolade
marks the second of Allen’s career and
the first since 2007.
The win improved
UWA to 3-0, its best start since 2006.
The “W” was also the first GSC opening
win since the 2006 season.
West Alabama will wrap up its trio of
Gulf South Conference Game of the Week
contests on Thursday, Sept. 17 with a
conference trip to Magnolia, Ark. as UWA
will face Southern Arkansas. Kickoff in
Magnolia, Ark. is scheduled for 7:00
p.m. and be broadcasted on FOX Sports,
WSLY 104.9 FM and at athletics.uwa.edu.
