LIVINGSTON, Ala.
– The University of West Alabama
football team continues its spring
football practices and Head Coach Bobby
Wallace is satisfied with the
progression of the team during drills.
“We’ve been on the
field for 10 days and I’m pleased with
the progress we have made as a team
during this spring,” Wallace said. “We
still have work to do, but we are
impressed with the progress.”
Wallace, who enters
his 21st season as a head coach and
fourth in Livingston, commented on the
development on the offensive and
defensive sides of the ball.
“I am pleased with
the improvement of Deon Williams at
quarterback and the freshmen behind him.
We have a lot of talent and depth at the
skill positions, but we are thin on the
line, but we addressed that during
signing day and we will have those kids
when we start fall practices.
“We moved Vonzell
Jackson to Mike linebacker and that’s
made a difference. Right now the
linebackers are the strength of our
defense. We have some inexperience in
the secondary, but we have seen progress
and that pleases us.”
West Alabama opens
the 2009 season on Thursday, Aug. 27, as
UWA travels to Belhaven College. Kickoff
is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in Jackson,
Miss.
