LIVINGSTON, Ala.
– The University of West Alabama
football team began spring football
practice on Monday afternoon. UWA looks
to build upon a 2008 record of 4-7.
“The first day of
practice is always fun. The kids are
excited to be out here. They are moving
around well,” said UWA Head Coach Bobby
Wallace. “We are above where we were on
offense last year at this time. Most of
our skill players weren’t here at this
time, which is a change.
“On defense, we
have some guys that have switched
positions and sides of the ball along
with some young players that we have to
see how they fit into the mix,” Wallace
continued.
Wallace, who enters
his 21st season as a head
coach and fourth in Livingston,
expressed some concern on the line.
“We are thin on the
line. It’s not as noticeable today, but
as we get into more scrimmage activity,
we do have a concern. We addressed that
during signing day and we will have
those kids when we start fall practices,
but right now we know we are thin up
front.”
West Alabama opens
the 2009 season on Thursday, Aug. 27, as
UWA travels to Belhaven College. Kickoff
is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in Jackson,
Miss.
