LIVINGSTON,
Ala. – The University
of West Alabama football team held a
90-play scrimmage on Saturday
morning, just 13 days away from the
season opener on Thursday, Aug. 27
at Belhaven. Head Coach Bobby
Wallace commented on his teams play
during the Saturday morning session.
“I’m pleased
with the way we handled things
today. I think we came out of it
pretty healthy. We missed some
turnovers on the defensive side of
the ball, but we didn’t commit any
turnovers on the offensive side.
This team has a chance to do some
special things if we just don’t beat
ourselves. I learned that we are in
better condition today than we
thought we were earlier in the
week.”
Wallace said
it’s too early to comment on players
until after he looks at the film,
but did say, “That Deon Williams
looked sharp in the scrimmage and he
also saw nice things out of Gary
Johnston.” He was also pleased with
the way that Marques Coleman played
on defense after being out for so
long.
West Alabama’s
season opener against the Blazers is
set for 7:00 p.m. at H. T. Newell
Field in Jackson, Miss. The game can
be heard on FOX Sports, WSLY
104.9-FM and at athletics.uwa.edu.
