LIVINGSTON, Ala.
– The University of West Alabama
football team took to the field for the
first of its summer practices on
Thursday, Aug. 6. 106 players reported
in preparations for the Tigers’ season
opener on Thursday, Aug. 27 at Belhaven
College.
“Overall, it’s a
good looking group,” UWA Head Coach
Bobby Wallace said. “I’ve really liked
our enthusiasm and the way everyone has
moving around. The guys who were here in
the summer are in good shape and well
conditioned. We have some guys that will
have to work through some conditioning
issues, but that’s always the case the
first day.”
Wallace, who is
entering his fourth season in Livingston
and 22nd as a head coach in
college football, commented on his
offensive line after the first day on
the field.
“The O-line is the
best looking group of guys we’ve had at
that position since I’ve been here.
(Those 10-12 guys) aren’t just talented;
it’s a group of big guys that can also
move their feet. We also have a lot of
depth there too. Everyone has looked
good in shorts. We will have to see if
they move that well once we get into
pads.”
The Tigers, who
were tabbed eighth in the GSC Football
Pre-Season Coaches’ Poll, continue their
summer work on Friday, Aug. 7 at 3:00
p.m.
Kickoff for West
Alabama’s season opener at H. T. Newell
Field in Jackson, Miss. is scheduled for
7:00 p.m. The game can be heard on FOX
Sports, WSLY 104.9-FM and at
athletics.uwa.edu.
