LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama football team improved to 2-0 on the season with a 33-19 win over Harding in the first Gulf South Conference Game of the Week. The win was the Tigers first 2-0 start since 2006, the first season under UWA head coach Bobby Wallace.

Deon Williams threw for 229 yards and a career-high four touchdowns in the win. UWA as a team compiled 384 yards on 71 plays and held the time of possession at 36:42, over 13 minutes more than the Bisons.

After going up 17-13 at the end of three quarters, UWA took an 11 point lead as Williams threw his third TD pass of the game, a 19 yard completion to Gerald Worsham. The Tigers added a 35-yard, Tyler Kimbrough field goal and an eight-yard touchdown catch by Jason Hawkins to close out the UWA points. HU placed its final points of the contest on the board with 1:13 remaining as Josh Powell hit Terrence Davis in the back of the endzone.

HU struck the first blow in the contest, scoring on its first possession of the game. The Bisons drove 53 yards on three plays, capped by a Josh Powell to Kale Gelles 27-yard touchdown pass. Kimbrough put UWA on the board with 38-yard field goal to cut the lead to 7-3 at the end of the first quarter. The field goal by the redshirt freshman ended a six play, 41 yard drive that ate up 2:20 on the clock.

The Tigers took the lead on a 17 play, 83 yard drive that consumed 8:28. Williams concluded the drive on a 25-yard, touchdown pass to Michael Townsend. Kimbrough followed with a good extra point, giving the Red and White a 10-7 lead with less than five minutes remaining in the first half. The Bisons knotted the contest as time expired in the half on a Micah Canterbury 40-yard field goal.

Canterbury put HU on top with a 36 yard field goal to open the second half, but a Tiger 76 yard drive placed UWA back in front, 17-13. Williams picked up his second touchdown pass of the game connecting with Terry Levy on a three-yard pass in the back of the endzone.
