2009 season, the University of West
Alabama football team will open the home
portion of the schedule against Harding
in non-conference action. The game will
be televised regionally on Comcast
Sports Southeast as part of the Gulf
South Conference Game of the Week slate.

This is the 15th

series 9-5, including six straight. The
Tigers last win in the series came on
Nov. 4, 2000, a 35-21 win in Livingston,
where the Red and White are 4-2 in the
series.
Both teams enter
the contest after picking up victories
in their season openers last week. UWA
traveled to Jackson, Miss and trounced
Belhaven College 47-3, while racking up
574 yards of total offense. Deon
Williams and Dameon Baylor accounted for
five of the Red and White’s seven
touchdowns in the lid lifting victory.
HU rallied to
defeat Missouri Southern 17-15, in
Searcy, as the Bisons tallied 363 yards
against MSU. Josh Powell hit Tyler
O’Quin with 18 seconds left to play to
open the 2009 season 1-0.
UWA seek to improve
its home opener record under head coach
Bobby Wallace, which is currently 3-0.
The Tigers will also look to improve
upon their 1-6 GSC-TV record and extend
its win streak on television to two
after a 17-14 overtime win over Southern
Arkansas last season.
The contest against
HU is the first of three regionally
televised games for the Tigers this
season. UWA will host Arkansas Tech on
Thursday, Sept. 10 and then travel to
Southern Arkansas on Thursday, Sept. 17.
