Tigers Host Arkansas Tech in GSC Game of the Week

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama football returns to Tiger Stadium on Thursday, Sept. 10 as UWA (2-0) hosts Arkansas Tech in the Gulf South Conference Game of the Week. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. The game will be broadcasted on Comcast Sports Southeast. The radio broadcast will be aired on FOX Sports, WSLY 104.9 FM and athletics.uwa.edu. UWA will also offer a video streaming of the game through the B2 Network.

The contest marks the 16th meeting between the two GSC members and is the conference opener for both teams. ATU (2-0) leads the series with an 11-4 record and has claimed the last 10 outings of the series, including a last second field goal last season in Russellville, Ark. to give the Wonder Boys a 26-24 win over the Tigers.

UWA and ATU each enter the contest with highly ranked offenses in the GSC. The Green and Gold Wonder Boys’ scoring offense is ranked second in the conference, averaging 42 points per game with UWA in third with 40 points per contest. Both teams hold the top two spots in passing offense with the Tigers at the top of list. Both are ranked in the top five in rush offense with the Wonder Boys in second and UWA in fourth.

Deon Williams enters as the top signal caller in the GSC total offense with 311 yards per game as ATU’s Nick Graziano is averaging 308 yards per contest. Graziano, a University of Nevada transfer, has thrown for 558 yards while completing 37-of-58 pass attempts with five touchdowns.  ATU also has the conference’s second best rushing attack led by Cody Burns who has rushed for 174 yards on 22 attempts.

Williams has completed 34-of-50 pass attempts, for the Red and White, for a total of 604 yards with seven touchdowns. The Tigers boast the fourth ranked rushing offense in the GSC paced a pair of running backs. Dameon Baylor leads the team with 92 yards on 27 rushing attempts while Roosevelt Ross has loaded up 91 yards on 18 carries.

Following the ATU encounter, West Alabama will wrap up its quartet of Thursday night contests with a conference trip to Magnolia, Ark. UWA will take on Southern Arkansas in the last of the Tigers Game of the Week outings. Kickoff in Magnolia, Ark. is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
