WACO, Texas –
The University of West Alabama football
team received votes in the American
Football Coaches Association (AFCA)
Division II Poll as released by the
association on Monday afternoon. UWA
(3-0, 1-0 Gulf South Conference) picked
up nine votes after its 35-30 win
Arkansas Tech on Sept. 10.
The recognition is
the first time UWA has received votes in
the AFCA Poll since its inception in
2000.
Grand Valley State
(3-0) is the top team in the poll with
625 points followed by Abilene Christian
(3-0) in second with 592 points. North
Alabama (3-0) is the highest ranked team
from the GSC with 577 points. Delta
State (1-1) is ninth in the poll with
Valdosta State (1-1) at 16th.
Ouachita Baptist is the only other team
from the GSC to receive votes, picking
up eight.
West Alabama will wrap up its trio of
Gulf South Conference Game of the Week
contests on Thursday, Sept. 17 with a
conference trip to Magnolia, Ark. as UWA
will face Southern Arkansas. Kickoff in
Magnolia, Ark. is scheduled for 7:00
p.m. and be broadcasted on FOX Sports,
WSLY 104.9 FM and at athletics.uwa.edu.
