Dr. R.T. Floyd
Athletic Training and
Sports Medicine
(1974-present)
Dr. R.T. Floyd, a native of Montgomery, Ala., has
been a fixture in the UWA Athletics and Physical Education Department for more
than 30 years. He began his career at West Alabama in 1974 as the Head Athletic
Trainer and served in that capacity until 1998. Floyd received a Bachelor of
Science in Health, Physical Education and Recreation in 1980 and a Master of
Arts in Teaching in 1982 from UWA, before earning a Doctorate of Education in
Human Performance Studies from the University of Alabama in 1995. Floyd has
served as chairperson for the Department of Physical Education and Athletic
Training and served a two-year term as the Faculty Senate President. In addition
to his UWA duties, he has served as the head athletic trainer for the Gray Squad
at the annual Kelly Tires Blue-Gray All-Star Classic from 1977-present.
Matt Carman
Football
(1990-1993)
Matt Carman, a native of Fayette, Ala., was an
All-GSC and All-American football player during his time at UWA. He is the UWA
career leader in receptions (172) and receiving yards (2,170) to go along with
22 receiving touchdowns. Carman holds the school record for receptions in a game
(19) and held the record for receiving yards in a game (194) until 2002 when the
mark was eclipsed by All-American Kyle Henderson. He turned in a brilliant
senior season in 1993, catching 88 passes for 1,085 yards and 14 scores. He
hauled in a school record five touchdown passes against Delta State in 1993, a
mark that still stands. |
