LIVINGSTON, Ala. — The
University of West Alabama Department of
Athletics has announced the hiring of Erin
Heeder as Assistant Women’s Cross Country Coach.
Heeder’s hire was made possible when UWA
garnered a Coaching Enhancement Grant from the
National Collegiate Athletics Association
(NCAA). This Spring UWA was one of only 18
Division II schools to receive the grant from
the governing body of intercollegiate athletics.
Heeder comes to Livingston
from the University of Tampa where she competed
for the nationally-ranked UT Women’s Cross
Country Team and was also a member of the
Spartan tennis program. The Dunedin,
Fla.-native finished 13th in the
Sunshine State Conference Cross Country
Championships last season. Her finish helped
guide UT to the conference title a season ago
and she played in the No. 1 position for the
Spartan netters.
“Erin brings a championship
background from the University of Tampa,” said
Head Cross Country Coach Dr. Don Medeiros. “I
really think she will be an asset to our program
and I look forward to working with her.”
Heeder earned
her degree in government and world affairs from
UT in December of 2007. She maintained a 3.65
grade point average while participating in
intercollegiate athletics during her four-year
stint in Tampa. She was also tabbed Academic
All-American in 2005 and 2006, and was a Dean’s
list scholarship and a Bright Futures
scholarship recipient. Additionally, Heeder was
a member of Pi Sigma Alpha National Political
Science Honor Society along with serving as a
representative on the Student Athletic Advisory
Committee.
