UWA Cross Country Prepares For 2007 GSC Championship

LIVINGSTON, Ala. — The University of West Alabama cross country teams will vie for a Gulf South Conference Championship on Saturday in Hoover, Ala. at the 2007 GSC Cross Country Championships.

This year’s championship will contested at the newly renovated Veteran’s Park in the Hoover area.  The 11-team, 8-K men’s meet is set to start at 9:00 a.m. (Central Time), followed by the 15-team, 5-K women’s event which starts 30 minutes after the finish of the men’s race.   The course is home to many high-profile distance running competitions, including the Nike Invitational and the Great American Races.

UWA’s men have posted three top-10 finishes in the four previous meets, including a win in the season-opener at Southern Mississippi and a second-place finish at the Mississippi State event.  Freshman Austin Enriquez has led the Tiger charge in three of the four meets this season.  On the women’s side, the Red and White are coming off a fifth-place finish at the Mississippi College Invitational last weekend.  Senior Amanda Fuentes has been UWA’s top-finisher in every meet this season.

Harding has claimed the past seven cross country league title on the men’s side while the HU women have won the past three conference crowns.
