SEARCY, Ark. – The University of West
Alabama cross country team closed out the
2008 season on a high note with a great
showing at the 2008 NCAA South Regional on
Saturday. The UWA men finished ninth in the
team standings while the Tiger women claimed
13th.
The
NCAA Division II South Region is comprised
of schools from the Gulf South Conference,
Sunshine State Conference and Southern
Intercollegiate Athletics Conference.
Host-Harding claimed top honors while GSC
member UAH finished second in the men’s team
standings. Both advance to the 2008 NCAA
Championship in Slippery Rock, Pa. Tampa
and Harding were the top two finishers in
the women’s event.
UWA
sophomore Austin Enriquez led the Tiger
charge with a time of 32 minutes, 16 seconds
to claim ninth place in the individual
standings. Jonathan Sellers turned in a
time of 34:22 to finish 37th
individually.
The
women were led by the duo of Jessica
Gonzalez and Carolyn Mancuso. Gonzalez
clocked a time of 24:49 in the 6K event to
post a 37th-place marking.
Mancuso finished 49th with a time
of 25:16. Kelli Hartley rounded out the
Tigers top-three competitors with a time of
25:32.
