MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The
University of West Alabama cross country
team competed in the prestigious Memphis
Twilight Classic on Saturday night with the
Tiger men finishing 17th in the field while
the UWA women placed 25th.
For the second straight
meet, the Red and White men were led by
sophomore Austin Enriquez with a time of 27
minutes, 8.53 seconds in the men's 8K event.
Jonathan Sellers turned in a time of
28:50.50 to aid the Tiger cause.
In a field mixed with
NCAA Division 1 and II, UWA finished ahead
of Gulf South Conference rival North
Alabama. The GSC was well represented with
nine teams entered in the meet. The Tiger
women placed ahead of GSC members - Ouachita
Baptist, Southern Arkansas, Delta State,
Christian Brothers and UAM.
The women's squad was
paced by freshman Jessica Gonzales with a
time of 21:08.59, followed by UWA two-sport
athlete Kelli Hartley posting a time of
22:30.25 in the 4K event.
The Tigers return to
competition next Saturday, traveling to
Starkville, Miss. to compete in the
Mississippi State Invitational.
