HOOVER, Ala. – West Alabama’s Austin
Enriquez and Jonathan Sellers earned Gulf
South Conference Second Team honors at the
2008 GSC Cross Country Championship, pacing
the Tigers to a sixth-place finish on the
men’s side. The UWA women finished tied for
tenth in the team standings.
Enriquez, from Fayetteville, Ga., turned in
a time of 26 minutes, 28.59 seconds to
finish 11th in the individual
standings while Sellers placed 14th
with a mark of 27:11.96. The top ten
finishers in the event are automatically
named members of the All-GSC First Team,
while the 11th through 20th
finishers earn Second Team accolades. The
duo of Enriquez and Sellers marks the
second-straight year the pair has earned GSC
honors. As a team, the Red and White men
were just eight points away from a top-five
placement in the team standings.
On the
women’s side, freshman Carolyn Mancuso
crossed the line just shy of a top 20 finish
and GSC honors, placing 22nd with
a time of 20:17.61 to lead all Tigers in the
women’s 5k. Jessica Gonzalez clocked a time
of 20:48.22 and finished 31st
individually.
Harding
University swept both GSC crowns in 2008.
It marks the sixth time that HU has claimed
both men’s and women’s cross country titles.
UWA
returns to action on Nov. 8, taking part in
the NCAA South Regional in Searcy, Ark.
