ATLANTA, Ga. – University of West
Alabama women’s basketball player Ashton
Washington received recognition from the
Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Association and
State Farm, as she was named a All-American
Honorable Mention.
“It’s an honor and a privilege to be
recognized for such a prestigious honor. To
be acknowledged for my work on the court is
definitely appreciated,” Washington said. “I
couldn't have done it without the dedication
of the coaching staff, the hard work of my
fellow teammates and the love and support of
the UWA family.”
Washington, a Lexington, Miss.-native, is a
two-time All-Gulf South Conference First
Team selection and a GSC All-Academic
honoree. She was one of five players in the
region to become a finalist for the National
Collegiate Athletic Association Division II
State Farm Coaches’ All-American Team.
“I am very
proud of Ashton,” UWA Head Coach Amanda
Marks said. “She is very deserving of this
honor. She has been an intricate part of the
success of the women’s basketball program.”
The senior
forward concluded her career, leaving her
mark on the UWA record book. Washington
became just the fifth player in Tigers
history to score 1,000-career points with
1,044 career points, which ranks fourth
all-time. She finished her career ranked
fourth in field goal attempts, third free
throw attempts, third free throws made and
second in rebounds.
Washington is scheduled to
graduate in December with a degree in
Business Administration and Journalism. She
is the daughter of Rose Washington.
