LIVINGSTON,
Ala. – The University of West Alabama
women’s basketball team returns to action on
Saturday, February 16, as the Tigers (10-12, 5-2
Gulf South Conference) travel to Carrollton, Ga.
to face #10 West Georgia. Tip-off is scheduled
for 4:30 p.m. The game can be heard on
Y-104.9-FM.
UWA, which
enters the contest riding a four-game win
streak, its longest of the season, turned back
North Alabama on Monday evening, 77-49, at
Pruitt Hall. The Red and White used a 13-0 run
at the end of the first half to spark the
28-point victory. Valerie Harris posted her
third consecutive game in double figures with 16
points to lead the Tigers.
Ashton
Washington and Jessica Thompson continue to lead
the Red and White in scoring, each averaging
double figures. Washington, a Lexington,
Miss.-product, is leads with 13.5 points a game
to go along with her team-leading nine rebounds
a contest. Thompson, a Valhermoso Springs,
Ala.-native, is averaging 12.5 points an outing,
while shooting nearly 40-percent from behind the
arc.
West Georgia
(21-2, 7-0 GSC) enters the contest winning 12
straight and undefeated in conference play. The
Wolves last loss came in a 69-58 setback on
December 14 at Tuskegee. In its last outing, UWG
escaped with a 55-53 win at #13 Valdosta State
on Monday night.
Four players
are averaging double figures in scoring for UWG,
led by 16 from Tia Jackson. Dominic Cranford is
averaging 14 points a contest with Ashley Huff
adding 13.9 and LaShandra McCoy tallying 13
points an outing. Huff leads the way on the
glass with 8.5 rebounds a game.
The contest at
West Georgia is the first of a two-game road
swing, as West Alabama travels to the University
of Alabama in Huntsville on Monday evening.
