LIVINGSTON, Ala. --
The University of West Alabama women’s
basketball fell 67-51 to Gulf South
Conference East Division leader West Georgia
on Thursday evening at Pruitt Hall. The
Wolves improve to 18-5 overall and 8-1 in
the GSC. UWA falls to 8-15 this season and
2-6 in the conference.
Jessie Clark paced a trio of Tigers in
double figures with 13 points, all in the
second half. Erin Courington added 11 with
Valerie Harris applying 10 points. Harris
also tied with Jenni Thomley for the team
lead in rebounds with seven each.
UWG saw a nine point halftime lead grow to
18 points over the first five and a half
minutes of the second half. UWA trimmed the
Wolves lead to 13 points with 5:58 remaining
to play. A trey from Tia Jackson at the 3:46
mark pushed the UWG margin back out to 16
points. Behind a 7-1 run, the Tigers pulled
within 10 points with 2:21 to play in the
game. Clark, a New Market, Ala.-native,
scored five of the Tigers points during the
run. The Wolves quickly pushed the lead back
out to 16 points and hit key free throws
down the stretch to secure the win.
The Tigers found themselves down 10-4 in the
first seven minutes of the game and trailed
by as many as 15 with under two minutes to
play in the opening half. A 6-0 run by the
Red and White pulled UWA within nine at the
half, 30-21.
West Alabama returns to action on Saturday,
Feb. 14 as the UWA hosts North Alabama in
the Pink Zone Game. Tip-off is set for 2:00
