LIVINGSTON,
Ala. – The University of West Alabama
women’s basketball team looks to build on its
66-58 win at the University of Alabama in
Huntsville over the weekend as it hosts Gulf
South Conference East Division leader West
Georgia on Thursday, Feb. 12. Tip-off is
scheduled for 5:30 p.m. The game will be
streamed over the internet on the B2 Network and
live stats will be available at
athletics.uwa.edu.
UWA (8-14,
2-4) will try to avenge a 62-38 loss at UWG
(17-5, 7-1) earlier this season. In the setback
at The Coliseum, the Tigers turned the ball over
33 times leading to 30 of the Wolves 62 points.
Valerie Harris led UWA with 17 points and 12
rebounds in the loss, her fourth career
double-double.
UWA forced 23
UAH miscues and scored 23 points off of the
turnovers in its win over the Lady Chargers. The
loss snapped a four game losing skid and gave
the Red and White its first road win of the
season. Harris led UWA with 19 points and 10
rebounds. The double-double was the sixth of the
Lake, Miss-native’s, career. Omeshia Frost and
Danielle Baldwin also tallied double figures for
the Tigers with 16 and 11 points respectively.
UWG enters the
contest riding a six game win streak, including
a 63-60 overtime win over in-state rival
Valdosta State on Saturday. The trio of Dominic
Cranford, Tia Jackson and Ashley Huff continued
their double figure scoring efforts in the win
over the Lady Blazers. Cranford paced UWG with
21 points as Huff supplied 17 and Jackson
rounded out the effort with 15 points.
UWA’s Harris
ranks eighth in the GSC in scoring and
rebounding with 16 points and 7.4 rebounds per
game. Cranford leads the way for the Wolves with
18.4 points per game, which is second in the
conference, while Huff ranks second in the GSC
in rebounds with 9.1 boards per game.
West Alabama will host North
Alabama in the Pink Zone Game on Saturday, Feb.
14. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m. The UWA women’s
basketball team is accepting pledges for every
3-pointer made in the game against UNA, with all
proceeds going to the Kay Yow/Women’s Basketball
Coaches Association (WBCA) Cancer Fund. All fans
are encouraged to wear pink to the game as part
of the NCAA “Pink Zone” campaign. Fans can also
by a $5.00 chance for a Vera Bradley bag donated
by the Livingston Drug Store and $1.00 chance
for a caramel cake from Touch of Home Bakery.
