LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University
of West Alabama women’s basketball team
closes out the regular-season on Saturday,
March, 1 as the Tigers (12-14, 7-4) Gulf
South Conference) host in-state and
divisional rival Montevallo on Senior Night.
Jessica Thompson, Ashton Washington, Irimar
Hernandez and Ayonna Procter will be honored
prior to tip-off, which is set for 2 p.m.
Thompson and
Washington lead the way for UWA, as
Thompson, native of Valhermoso Springs,
Ala., leads the Red and White in scoring
with 13.2 points a game, while Washington, a
Lexington, Miss.-product, paces the Tigers
in rebounds with 8.6 a game, while recording
12.9 points a contest.
UM (6-20, 2-9)
is led by Jennifer Hendricks and Jamie
Graham. Hendricks leads in scoring with 12
per outing, as Graham is the catalyst on the
glass with 9.5 rebounds a game and 11.6
points, which is second on the team.
The Red and
White enter the contest after squeaking by
West Florida, 73-71, in Pensacola on Monday
evening. The Lady Falcons enter after
falling at home to Valdosta State on Monday,
62-56.
This marks the
second meeting this season between the two
in-state foes, as UWA claimed a 75-67 win at
People’s Bank and Trust Arena over
Montevallo. Valerie Harris was one of four
Tigers in double figures scoring that night
with a team-leading 19 points.
West Alabama
returns to action on Thursday, March 6, as
the Tigers, which has clinched the #3 seed
in the East Division, will play at 12:30
p.m. against Arkansas Tech, the West
Division #2 seed, in the GSC Women’s
Basketball Tournament in Southaven, Miss.
The game will be carried on Y-104.9 FM.
