LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama women’s basketball team returns to action on Monday, February 18, as the Tigers (10-13, 5-3 Gulf South Conference) travel to the University of Alabama in Huntsville for a key GSC East Division game. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m. The game can be heard on Y-104.9-FM.

This marks the second meeting between the two in-state schools, as the Red and White claimed a 76-74 overtime thriller in Pruitt Hall in the opening weekend of conference play. Ashton Washington hit the game-winning jumper with seven seconds remaining in OT to lift the Tigers to the victory. Irimar Hernandez, one of four Tigers in double figures scoring, was the leader for UWA, supplying 14 points.

The setback dropped the Red and White back to third in the division behind #13 Valdosta State (20-4, 6-2 GSC) and UWG, who has clinched the divisional crown. Jessica Thompson and Omeshia Frost led the Tigers in scoring with 16 points each, as Dominique Whitfield proved to be the catalyst on the glass with nine rebounds.

Washington and Thompson continue to lead the Red and White in scoring, each averaging double digits. Washington is turning out 13.3 points a game to go along with her team-leading 8.9 boards a game, while Thompson is supplying 12.6 points a contest.

UAH enters the contest fresh off an 87-64 win over Montevallo, that also snapped a four-game conference losing streak. The Lady Chargers last win in the GSC came in a 55-45 victory over VSU on January 21.

LaTonya McKinney and Ashley Boykin lead the charge for UAH, each scoring in double figures this season. McKinney is averaging a team-leading 13.2 points a game, while Boykin is dumping in 11.6 a contest. Michelle Snow leads the way on the boards with six rebounds a game.
