VALDOSTA, Ga. – The University of
West Alabama women’s basketball team
couldn’t overcome a 24-5 run by Valdosta
State in the first 10 minutes of the
game, as UWA (9-16, 3-7) fell 62-40 at
the PE Complex on Thursday evening. The
Lady Blazers forced 28 Tiger miscues,
resulting in 27 points.
Danielle Baldwin led the Red and White
with 11 points, as Valerie Harris pulled
down seven boards to pace the Tigers on
the glass. Four Lady Blazers posted
double figures led by 15 points from
Sczeny Hartry.
UWA
got 23 points from its bench, outscoring
the Lady Blazers by 16 in that area. The
Tigers posted 27 second half points to
the 25 points from VSU.
Leading 37-13 at the half, VSU pushed
its margin out to 30 points, the largest
of the game with 13:37 remaining in the
game. UWA trimmed the lead to 23 points
on a 9-2 run, but VSU pushed the lead
back out to 30 points with just three
ticks over eight minutes. Four points in
the final 1:30 from Danielle Baldwin
pulled the Tigers within 22 to close the
game.
West
Alabama returns to action on Saturday,
Feb. 21, as UWA hosts West Florida.
Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m. Prior to
the opening tip, the Tigers will honor
its three seniors, Baldwin, Harris and
Omeshia Frost.
