LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of
West Alabama women’s basketball team
concludes a season long, three-game
homestand, as UWA (7-10, 1-2 GSC) hosts
Valdosta State in GSC action. Tip-off is set
for 5:30 p.m. The game will be streamed over
the internet on the B2 Network and live
stats will be available at athletics.uwa.edu.
UWA picked
up its first conference win of the season
with an 81-76 win over UAH, as the Tigers
set a season-high in points. The Red and
White also turned back Concordia College of
Selma during the week in a 79-45 win.
Valerie Harris continues to pace UWA in
points and rebounds, averaging 19 points and
7.5 rebounds for the week. The Lake,
Miss.-native has scored in double figures in
16 of the Tiger’s 17 games this season with
15 points against the Hornets and a
career-high tying 23 points vs. UAH.
Danielle Baldwin
tied
her career-high in assists with six against
Concordia and then broke it with eight
against the Lady Chargers for a total of 14
assists.
VSU
(13-4, 3-0 GSC) enters the contest riding a
four-game win streak, tied for longest this
season. The Lady Blazers are led by Michelle
Thompson, who is averaging 12.9 points per
game, and Tamika Booker, who grabs 7.6
rebounds per contest. Thompson and Booker
rank 15th and fourth in the GSC,
respectively. In their last outing, three
VSU players scored in double figures, led by
Booker’s 13 points, as the Lady Blazers
defeated North Alabama 69-55. Sczeny
Hartry and Thompson each added 11 points to
round out the double digit performances.
West
Alabama returns to action on Saturday, Jan.
24, as UWA returns to the road, traveling to
Pensacola, Fla. to face West Florida.
Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m. and the game
will be broadcasted on WZNJ 106.5-FM and at
athletics.uwa.edu.
