Tigers Travel to West Georgia

LIVINGSTON, Ala. -- The University of West Alabama women’s basketball team looks to bounce back from its Gulf South Conference opening 81-63 loss at North Alabama, as UWA travels to Carrollton, Ga. to face West Georgia on Saturday, Jan. 10. Tip-off in The Coliseum is set for 4:30 p.m. CST and can be heard on WZNJ 106.5-FM and at athletics.uwa.edu.

The UNA loss snapped a two-game win streak for UWA. Keiara Middleton led the Tigers in scoring with 14 points, followed by 11 points from Valerie Harris. Omeshia Frost paced the Tigers on the boards with six rebounds. Amber Rutherford fell one rebound short of a double-double for UNA with a season-high 33 points and nine rebounds.

Harris continues to lead the Red and White on the season, averaging 15.9 points and 7.0 rebounds per game, which currently ranks ninth and tenth in the conference. The Lake, Miss.-native has posted double figures in 13 of the 14 contests this season and has 26 double digit scoring efforts in her career at UWA.

UWG (10-4, 1-0) enters riding a four-game win streak, including a 54-38, GSC opening win against Montevallo. Dominic Cranford and Ashley Huff led the way in scoring with 15 points each against the Lady Falcons. Huff also pulled down 14 rebounds for her 13th career double-double. Cranford paces the Wolves in scoring on the season with 18.3 points per game, third in the GSC, while Huff is fifth in the conference with 7.7 rebounds per contest.

The conference clash on Saturday is just the second women’s game to be played in the recently opened Coliseum on the UWG campus.  The Coliseum seats 6,790 in its basketball configuration. This includes 730 chair seats directly behind the benches and scorer’s table. Elsewhere, the building has 5,952 bleacher-style seats, and 108 spaces for wheelchairs and folding chairs.

Following Saturday’s contest, West Alabama begins a three-game homestand with Concordia on Wednesday, Jan. 14. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
