LIVINGSTON, Ala. -- The University of
West Alabama women’s basketball team looks
to bounce back from its Gulf South
Conference opening 81-63 loss at North
Alabama, as UWA travels to Carrollton, Ga.
to face West Georgia on Saturday, Jan. 10.
Tip-off in The Coliseum is set for 4:30 p.m.
CST and can be heard on WZNJ 106.5-FM and at
athletics.uwa.edu.
The UNA
loss snapped a two-game win streak for UWA.
Keiara Middleton led the Tigers in scoring
with 14 points, followed by 11 points from
Valerie Harris. Omeshia Frost paced the
Tigers on the boards with six rebounds.
Amber Rutherford fell one rebound short of a
double-double for UNA with a season-high 33
points and nine rebounds.
Harris
continues to lead the Red and White on the
season, averaging 15.9 points and 7.0
rebounds per game, which currently ranks
ninth and tenth in the conference. The Lake,
Miss.-native has posted double figures in 13
of the 14 contests this season and has 26
double digit scoring efforts in her career
at UWA.
UWG (10-4,
1-0) enters riding a four-game win streak,
including a 54-38, GSC opening win against
Montevallo. Dominic Cranford and Ashley Huff
led the way in scoring with 15 points each
against the Lady Falcons. Huff also pulled
down 14 rebounds for her 13th
career double-double. Cranford paces the
Wolves in scoring on the season with 18.3
points per game, third in the GSC, while
Huff is fifth in the conference with 7.7
rebounds per contest.
The
conference clash on Saturday is just the
second women’s game to be played in the
recently opened Coliseum on the UWG campus.
The Coliseum seats 6,790 in its basketball
configuration. This includes 730 chair seats
directly behind the benches and scorer’s
table. Elsewhere, the building has 5,952
bleacher-style seats, and 108 spaces for
wheelchairs and folding chairs.
Following
Saturday’s contest, West Alabama begins a
three-game homestand with Concordia on
Wednesday, Jan. 14. Tip-off is set for 5:30
p.m.
