PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of West Alabama women’s basketball dropped a 68-61 overtime decision to West Florida on Sunday afternoon at the UWF Fieldhouse. The contest was the third overtime outing for UWA (7-12, 1-4) this season.

Valerie Harris led the Tigers with 17 points, marking her 31st career double digit game. Keiara Middleton added 14 while Danielle Baldwin dropped in 10 points. Omeshia Frost paced UWA on the glass with seven rebounds, tying her career-high.

Trailing the entire second half, a layup by Baldwin with 1:42 to play in regulation capped a 13-4 run by UWA to tie the game at 59-59 and sent the contest into overtime. UWF (7-13, 2-3) opened with the first four points of the extra session. A pair of free throws by Middleton pulled the Tigers within two, 63-61, with 1:49 to play, but back-to-back scoring trips by the Lady Argos, including a trey from Tiffany Williams with 21 ticks left, secured the seven-point victory for UWF.

UWF opened the second half with a 14-5 run, reaching its largest lead of the game, 11 points at the 14:25 mark. The Lady Argos maintained the double digit lead until a Jenni Thomley jumper with 11:01 to play in the second stanza. The jumper sparked a 7-0 run by the Tigers that pulled them to 48-46 with 8:29 to play in the second half. A quick, answering 7-0 spurt by UWF pushed the lead back to seven with 6:27 remaining.

UWA opened with the first basket of the contest, but witnessed a 15-4 run over the next five and half minutes that put the Tigers down 15-6 with 14:11 to play in the first half. The Red and White followed with a 7-0 run to narrow the gap to 15-14 with 8:48 to play in the opening stanza. UWF pushed the lead back out to as many as seven following the run before heading into the locker room up 30-28.
