LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The
University of West Alabama women’s
basketball team opens up Gulf South
Conference play Thursday, Jan. 8, as
UWA (5-8) travels to Florence,
Ala. to face instate foe North
Alabama. Tip-off is slated for 6:00
p.m. at Flowers Hall. The game will
be aired on WZNJ 106.5-FM. and at
athletics.uwa.edu.
The Tigers have won three of their
last four outings, including a 75-68
win over Christian Brothers on
Saturday, Jan. 3. The 75 points tied
a season-high set one game prior
against Southern Arkansas in West
Florida Holiday Classic. Danielle
Baldwin, one of four Tigers in
double figures, led the way with a
career-high 20 points. Valerie
Harris added 18 points, while Keiara
Middleton and Jenni Thomley tallied
11 and 12 points respectively.
Thomley tied Omeshia Frost for the
team lead in rebounds with seven
each. UWA, which shot 47.6-percent
from the floor on the game, the
second highest percentage this
season, never trailed in the game.
Harris continues to lead the charge
for the Red and White, posting a
scoring average of 16.3 points and
7.5 rebounds per game, which
currently rank fifth and seventh in
the conference respectively.
UNA (7-8) enters the game having
dropped three of its last four
contests, including a two-game
losing streak. The Lions fell to
Harding their last affair, falling
70-63 in Flowers Hall. Dana Jackson
tied a career-high with 20 points
for UNA. Jameica York added 19
points for the Lions, while Amber
Rutherford also reached double
digits with 12 points on the day.
Rutherford paces the Lions 14.9
points and 6.1 rebounds a game,
ranking 10th and 17th
in the conference.
West Alabama returns to action on
Saturday, Jan. 10, as UWA will
travel to Carrollton, Ga. to face
West Georgia in GSC action. The
conference clash at The Coliseum is
set for 4:30 p.m. CST. The game will
be broadcasted on WZNJ 106.5-FM and
athletics.uwa.edu.
