LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of
West Alabama women’s basketball team returns
to the hardwood, looking to snap a two-game
losing skid, as UWA (7-12, 1-4) hosts
Montevallo on Thursday, Jan. 29. Tip-off is
set for 5:30 p.m. The game will be streamed
over the internet on the B2 Network and live
stats will be available at athletics.uwa.edu.
The Tigers
dropped two Gulf South Conference affairs
last week, falling 58-53 in a neutral site
contest in Meridian (MS) Community College’s
Graham Gymnasium to Valdosta State and
stumbled 68-61 in overtime at West Florida.
Valerie Harris and Keiara Middleton each
averaged double figures in scoring over the
week. Harris (Lake, Miss.) led the way with
17 points, while Middleton (Birmingham,
Ala.) averaged 14 points per outing. The duo
was also among top three rebounders for the
week. Harris paced the Red and White on the
glass with six rebounds with Omeshia Frost
(Lawrenceville, Ga.) pulling down five
rebounds and Middleton grabbing 4.5 boards.
UM (6-14,
2-3) enters the in-state clash after being
edged 51-50 by Valdosta State on Sunday
afternoon. The loss broke a two-game win
streak for the Lady Falcons that included
wins over UAH and West Florida. Alicia Lewis
led UM in scoring in its last two outings,
averaging 15 points with Katie Vanderhyden
recording 14.5 points in the two contests.
Carrie Parrott paced the Lady Falcons with
8.5 rebounds.
Thursday
night’s game pits two of the top 10
rebounders in the conference. Harris and
Parrott each average 7.2 rebounds per game.
The duo also ranks fifth and sixth
respectively in field goal percentage in the
GSC. Parrott shoots 53.5 percent, while
Harris has connected on 52.9 percent of her
shots from the floor.
UWA, which
is undefeated in the GSC at Pruitt Hall,
looks to extend its home record to 4-1
overall this season. UM is winless this
season away from home.
West Alabama returns to
action on Monday, Feb. 2, as UWA travels to
GSC West Division foe Harding for
non-conference action.
