LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of
West Alabama women’s basketball team looks
to snap a four game losing streak and pick
up its first win on the road as UWA (7-14,
1-6) travels to Huntsville, Ala. to face the
University of Alabama in Huntsville in GSC
East Division action. Tip-off is scheduled
for 5:00 p.m. and the game will be aired on
WZNJ 106.5-FM. along with live stats at
athletics.uwa.edu.
UWA has
claimed the last five meetings between the
two in-state institutions and holds the
advantage over its northern neighbor with a
21-16 series record.
As the
second stanza of the GSC East season begins,
the Tigers look to garner their second
conference win on Saturday. UWA’s lone
conference victory came at the defeat of UAH
on Saturday, Jan. 17 at Pruitt Hall. Four
Tigers scored in double figures en route to
UWA’s season-high 81 points. Valerie Harris
paced the Red and White with 23 points,
tying her career-high. Omeshia Frost
supported the effort with 14 points along
with 12 from Jenni Thomley. Keiara Middleton
rounded out the double digit scoring
producers with 10 points. Ashley Boykin led
the way for UAH with 22 points in the 81-76
loss.
Harris
continues to pilot the Tiger’s effort this
season, averaging 15.9 points and 7.2
rebounds per game, which ranks eighth and
ninth in the conference respectively. The
Lake, Miss.-native also ranks seventh in the
GSC in field goal percentage, shooting just
under 53-percent per game. Harris has
produced double figures in scoring 19 times
this season, the most on the team. Middleton
ranks right behind the senior forward with
nine games in double figures, averaging
eight points per contest.
UAH
snapped a two game skid on Thursday night,
holding off Montevallo 69-66 in conference
play. A quartet of Lady Chargers posted
double figures, led by Renita Lewis’ 16
points. Diana Alsbrook chimed in 15 with
Candace Lee tabbing in 11 and Boykin
claiming 10 points. Stephanie Gehlhausen
paced UAH on the glass with 12 rebounds.
Boykin leads UAH with 16.4 points per game.
The Haleyville, Ala.-native ranks fifth in
the GSC in scoring, third in free throw
percentage with 85.5-percent and eighth in
three point percentage at 38-percent.
Following
Saturday’s pivotal conference clash, West
Alabama will return to Pruitt Hall on
Thursday, Feb. 12 to face GSC East Division
leader West Georgia. Tip-off is set for 5:30
p.m. The game will be available via live
