LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University
of West Alabama women’s basketball team
looks to pick up its first Gulf South
Conference win of the season, as UWA (6-10,
0-2) hosts the University of Alabama in
Huntsville on Saturday, Jan. 17. Tip-off has
been changed to 3:00 p.m.
The Tigers, who lost their
first two conference games, snapped their
losing skid with a 79-45 win over Concordia
College of Selma on Wednesday evening at
Pruitt Hall. The 79 points was a season-high
for UWA, while the 45 points was the fewest
point surrendered by the Red and White this
season. Valerie Harris, who
leads UWA in scoring with 15.9 points per
game, paced the Tigers with 15 points to go
along with her team leading nine rebounds.
It marked the 15th time this year
that the Lake, Miss.-native had posted
double figures. Jessie Clark (New Market,
Ala.) and Danielle Baldwin (Jackson, Miss.)
rounded out the double digit scoring efforts
with 10 points each in the contest. Baldwin
tied a career-high with six assists in the
game.
UAH (4-13,
1-2) enters the contest riding a two-game
losing streak of its own, after dropping a
65-56 decision at Montevallo on Thursday.
The Lady Chargers have fallen in four of
their last five contests. Ashley Boykin and
Kristen Banes paced the UAH offense, scoring
17.1 and 10 points per game respectively.
Banes is tied for the team lead in rebounds
with Stephani Gehlhausen, averaging 5.4
boards per contest.
UWA, which
is 2-1 at home this season, leads the series
with the Lady Chargers, 24-17, and has
claimed four straight against its northern
in-state foe.
West
Alabama returns to action on Thursday, Jan.
22, as UWA concludes its three-game
homestand against Valdosta State in GSC
action. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m.
