HUNTSVILLE,
Ala. – The University of
West Alabama women’s basketball team
snapped a four game losing skid and
earned its first road win of the
season with a 66-58 win over the
University of Alabama in Huntsville.
The Tigers (8-14, 2-4) forced 23 UAH
(6-17, 2-6) miscues and scored 23
points off of the turnovers.
Valerie Harris
led UWA with 19 points and 10
rebounds. The double-double was the
sixth of the Lake, Miss-native’s,
career. Omeshia Frost and Danielle
Baldwin also tallied double figures
for the Tigers with 16 and 11 points
respectively. Stephanie Gehlhausen
paced the Lady Chargers with 18
points and eight rebounds. Ashley
Boykin chimed in 12 points in the
setback.
UWA, which
outscored the Lady Chargers 37-23 in
the final frame of the contest,
found itself down 41-31 in the first
four minutes of the second half, but
the Tigers rallied to tie the
contest at 41-41 on a layup from
Harris. A three pointer by Jessie
Clark with 11:19 to play gave UWA
its first lead since the 2:19 mark
of the first half at 44-43. UAH
regained the lead on a jumper by
Candace Lee with 8:37 to play. Four
quick points from Harris put the
Tigers back up 51-48 with just over
seven and half minutes to play and
UWA never trailed again in the
contest.
West Alabama
will return to Pruitt Hall on
Thursday, Feb. 12 to face GSC East
Division leader West Georgia.
