UWA Drops Contest at Mobile, 75-53

MOBILE, Ala. – The University of West Alabama women’s basketball team dropped its second contest of the season, as the Tigers (0-2) fell 75-53 at the University of Mobile on Friday evening.

Valerie Harris paced UWA with 12 points and seven rebounds on the night. Courtney McDonald supplied 11 points, as the only other Tiger in double figures. The Lady Rams (6-2) were led by Danielle Goodly with 21 points and Gerica Johnson with 20 points. Sherri McIntosh pulled down a game-high 14 boards to go along with her 18 points.

UWA, which shot just over 40-percent from the floor on the night, hit nearly 50-percent of its shots in the first half, but trailed at the intermission, 30-28, on a buzzer beating trey by Johnson. The Tigers were outscored 45-25 after the break.

The Red and White opened the game on a 7-0 run, but saw its lead dwindle to a 9-9 tie at the 12:27 mark. UWA again pushed the lead back out to seven with 6:45 remaining before the intermission, but a 13-4 UM run pulled the Lady Rams within one before Johnson’s three gave UM its first lead of the game.

West Alabama returns to action on Tuesday, Nov. 25, as the Tigers host Delta State. Tip-off at Pruitt Hall is set for 2:00 p.m. The game can be followed via live stats at athletics.uwa.edu and will be streamed over the web by the B2 Network.
