LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of
West Alabama women’s basketball team travels
to the West Florida Classic this weekend in
search of its first win of the season. UWA
(0-5) will open the classic against
Livingstone College on Friday, Dec. 5 with a
4:00 p.m. tip-off. Live stats will be
available at athletics.uwa.edu.
Along with
LC (2-2, 0-1 CIAA), UWA will face Eckerd
College (3-2), another first ever opponent,
on day two of the UWF Classic.
Valerie
Harris and Keiara Middleton pace the Tigers
in scoring. Harris, a Lake, Miss.-native, is
averaging 16 points to go along with her
team-leading nine rebounds per game, which
ranks sixth and fourth in the Gulf South
Conference respectively. Middleton, a
Birmingham, Ala.-product, is averaging 10
points per game, rounding out the double
figure scorers for the Red and White.
Brittany
Wright leads the Blue Bears in scoring,
averaging 14.7 points per game. Wright is
tied for the team lead in rebounds with
Cassaundra Rhodes
with nine rebounds per outing. LC
lost its last affair at Shaw University
70-56.
Eckerd
will face host West Florida in the opening
day of the classic. After opening the season
3-0, the Tritons enter the weekend on a
two-game, losing skid, falling to Georgia
Southwestern (L, 75-74) and at St. Thomas
(L, 79-70). Ashley Lutz leads EC in scoring
with 17.8 points per contest. Olivia Nagle
is second on the team in scoring with 13.8
points and a team-leading nine rebounds per
game.
West
Alabama returns to action, following the UWF
Classic, in Memphis, Tenn. against Christian
Brothers. Tip-off at CBU is scheduled for
5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 9.
