BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The University of
West Alabama’s Valerie Harris was named Gulf
South Conference East Division Player of the
Week for her efforts this week in Lloyd
Clark Classic.
Harris led
UWA in scoring and rebounds on the week, as
UWA picked up a big win against West
Division rival the University of Arkansas at
Monticello. The senior averaged 17 points
and six rebounds in the two contests,
hitting 52 percent from the floor. She
posted a career-high 23 points in the 63-61
win over UAM, while contributing seven
rebounds. Harris was the only Tiger named to
the All-Tournament Team in the Lloyd Clark
Classic.
The Lake,
Miss.-native is the first UWA player this
season to earn the conference accolade, also
the first of her career. Harris leads the
Red and White in scoring and rebounds,
averaging 16.6 points and 7.7 boards per
game, which ranks seventh in the GSC.
West
Alabama returns to action on the hardwood on
Monday, Dec. 29, as UWA travels to
Pensacola, Fla. for the West Florida Holiday
Classic. The Tigers will face GSC West
Division foes Arkansas Tech and Southern
Arkansas.
