SEARCY,
Ark. – The University of West Alabama
women’s basketball team suffered a 99-54
loss to Harding in the Rhoades Field House
on Monday evening. UWA falls to 7-14 overall
while HU improves to 14-6 on the season.
Erin
Courington paced the Tigers with a
career-high 14 points. Stacy Owens led HU
with 21 points.
The Lady
Bisons opened the contest with a 17-6 run
over the first seven and a half minutes of
the contest. UWA trimmed the double digit
lead to eight on two occasions during the
next three minutes, but HU regained its
double digit margin, 26-15, on a pair of
free throws by Sierra Rollins. A Danielle
Baldwin jumper brought the lead back under
double digits and sparked an 8-0 UWA run.
Back-to-back three point baskets narrowed
the lead to 26-23 with 6:48 to play in the
first half. The Lady Bisons quickly answered
with a 12-5 run to push the lead back out to
10 points before heading into the locker
room up 42-31 at the half.
HU opened
the second half on a 10-0 run, extending its
lead to 21 points. HU would outscore the
Tigers 57-23 in the second stanza, holding
the Red and White to five made shots from
the floor after the intermission. The Lady
Bisons reached their largest lead of the
game, 47 points, with 1:23 to play.
West
Alabama returns to action on Saturday, Feb.
7 as UWA travels to Huntsville, Ala. to face
northern neighbor UAH. Tip-off at Spragins
Hall is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. The game
