LIVINGSTON, Ala. -- The University of
West Alabama women’s basketball team returns
to hardwood action on Monday, Dec. 15 at the
Delta State hosted Lloyd Clark Classic in
Cleveland, Miss. UWA (2-6) faces the Lady
Statesmen (6-4) on the first day of the
classic at 5:00 p.m. in Walter Sillers
Coliseum. The game can be viewed via live
stats at athletics.uwa.edu.
The Tigers
fell to Christian Brothers, 72-56, last
Tuesday in Canale Arena on the CBU campus.
The loss snapped a two-game win streak for
UWA, as it had defeated Livingstone College
and Eckerd College at the West Florida
Classic. Valerie Harris led UWA in the last
three games with a scoring average of 17.3
points and 6.7 rebounds per game. The Lake,
Miss.-native is averaging 16.5 points and
8.1 boards per game for the season, which
ranks sixth in the Gulf South Conference.
Monday’s
contest against DSU is the second meeting
this season between the two GSC
institutions. The Lady Statesmen picked up a
67-54 win over the Tigers at Pruitt Hall.
Moe Bell, who is third for DSU in scoring
with 9.4 points per game, led all scorers
with 20 points, while LaMaesha McAdory, the
scoring leader for the Green and White,
posted 10 points in the game. Keiara
Middleton led UWA with 12 points, followed
by 11 points from Jenni Thomley. Harris
paced the Red and White on the glass with
eight rebounds.
UWA also
looks to snap a four game skid on the road
this season, including setbacks at Auburn
Montgomery, Mobile, North Georgia and
Christian Brothers. The Tigers are 2-5 away
from Pruitt Hall on the season.
West
Alabama will conclude pre-holiday action on
Tuesday, Dec. 16, as UWA will face the
University of Arkansas at Monticello in the
second day of the Lloyd Clark Classic.
Tip-off at Walter Sillers Coliseum is
scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
