LIVINGSTON, Ala. –
The University of West Alabama women’s
basketball team snapped a two-game
losing skid, while scoring a season-high
79 points in a 79-45 win over Concordia
College of Selma on Wednesday evening in
Pruitt Hall. UWA improved to 6-10 on the
season, while the Hornets fell to 10-11
on the year.
The Tigers held CC to an
opponent low in points in the first half
with 19 points and 45 points for the
game.
Valerie Harris led UWA
in scoring for the 15th time this
season, posting 15 points to go along
with her team leading nine rebounds.
Jessie Clark and Danielle Baldwin
rounded out the double digit scoring
efforts with 10 points each in the
contest. Baldwin tied a career-high with
six assists in the game.
After UWA jumped out to
7-3 lead in the early going of the game,
the Hornets rallied to take a 14-13 lead
with 12:38 to play before the break. The
Tigers put together a 12-1 run over the
next six minutes to earn a double digit
lead at 25-15. The Tigers held the
double digit lead the remainder of the
half and held CC scoreless for nearly
five minutes to close the half at 37-19.
UWA opened with first
six points of the second half, claiming
a 43-19 advantage. The Hornets first
basket of the second stanza came at
16:23 mark, snapping an eight minute
drought that carried over from the first
half. The Tigers expanded their lead to
as many as 30 points with 9:06 left to
play in the game, before reaching their
largest margin of the contest, 34
points, with 10 seconds to play.
Santana Seay led the
Hornets with 19 points, while Shenice
Price added 10 points.
West Alabama returns to
Gulf South Conference play on Saturday,
Jan. 17, as UWA hosts UAH at Pruitt
Hall. Tip-off is slated for 3:00 p.m.
